Asteroid field looting with a functional radar



I never made a devblog post for this game - or promoted it at all - yet it is one of my favourite games I've created so far. This was an entry to 2D Game Jam 2 in late 2024. As with all game jams, I was only able to get a limited amount of content into this game, and revisited it soon after to add more.
You navigate an asteroid field containing the wrecks of a space battle. You scavenge energy, and other goodies from the wrecks. The game completes once you've drained energy from all 20 wrecks in the maps. There may be active weapons systems left over amongst the asteroids, so be careful!
There is a lot of map exploration here, and the view of the game is quite limited, and dark. So your radar comes in very useful. The radar screen is the big feature of this game - it looks realistic, as in asteroids cast radar shadows, hiding whatever is behind them. The radar also keeps track of objects in the game, giving you more information when it can.
Update
I have updated this game since the original game jam entry. There are quite a few changes, here is a list:
- Gentle introduction (game doesn't throw everything at you at the start)
- Gentle collisions are now less deadly
- Added patrol drones & sentry guns
- Added missiles
- Incoming object warnings
- Can now use engines while in radar mode
- Added mapping mode to radar view
- Wrecks now assigned numbers to help with exploration
- Improved transfer window (i.e. looting)
- Balanced loot somewhat
- Fixed bugs:
- Radar shadows at edge of map are now correct
- Stopped looping sounds on death
Skavenger
Pilot your Skavenger XT001 craft through the asteroid belt collect residual energy and other goodies.
